The world might be under pressure, but optimism persists. A novel accolade from the science, music and arts festival the Starmus festival will inspire individuals to make a difference.

This new Earth medal bearing Jane Goodall's name will honor to pay tribute to the celebrated scientist and conservationist who died recently. It seeks to acknowledge those who protect our planet's biodiversity.

The Medal's Framework

The first recipients are expected to be announced during the upcoming Starmus event in Tenerife and La Palma, which will run from 17–22 October the coming year.

It was shared that Goodall, who was a Starmus advisory board member, had supported the medal's establishment. “The idea behind this award, and Starmus being entrusted to oversee it, originated with Jane,” a representative said. “She said that she wanted for this to occur. And I think because of the unique bond she shared with the festival.”

“The Starmus Jane Goodall Earth medal will recognize sustainable programmes carried out to create a planet a better place for people, animals and the environment and foster motivation to carry on that work,” commented a relative.

Format and Inspiration

One of the founders of the festival indicated that the medal – unveiled at a scientific institution – would probably encompass various fields.

“It will be very much similar to the Stephen Hawking medal for science communication that we created exactly 10 years ago,” he explained. Goodall herself received of that very medal.

Sharing thoughts about the future of the planet, one figure said, “To be truthful, it is difficult to maintain optimism. Present governance globally represents a dismissal of evidence. So this really cripples global initiatives.”

“Realistically, things don’t look particularly bright so we have to really start reflecting, with greater urgency about the consequences of our actions. And that’s not just climate change, that’s the entire manner in which we interact with the natural world.”

Inspiring Change

As a result, observers believe this is an opportune moment to follow her guiding principles. “It is believed that in bestowing this medal, we will be considering this core philosophy of Jane’s – that was her priority, to change the way we treat fellow creatures with which we share the planet.”

A major topic currently was highlighted of false information. The central topic of next year’s festival is set as “the search for truth”.

“There is a recognition that factual reality has become a subject of discussion when politics are involved. And it’s a perilous development,” it was said. “The climate science remains a scientific discipline; you cannot have any influence by political agendas in climate science.”

Hope and Determination

The hope is that this honor can motivate concrete steps. “The purpose is inspiring individuals to get involved and to show concern and to work toward these goals, really. Regardless of if we’re optimistic, we have to look at working our utmost,” a statement concluded. “Accept the possibility of setbacks, yet we must continue striving toward success.”

A descendant engaged in environmental protection shared confidence that “with guidance and when empowered, humanity are capable of being diligent stewards of Earth”, citing the work of a foundation that, among its other activities, empowers the youth become engaged locally, wildlife, and the natural world.

“As my late grandmother repeatedly emphasized, the choices we make each day have an impact and it is up to us the kind of difference we make,” it was stated. “We still have an opportunity and this medal will provide inspiration and increase understanding about constructive efforts currently in progress.”
