Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team followed a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before sliding over the gravel trap, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending corner before the final bend on to the main straight.
Hamilton ended the session in P19, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619secs off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
